Houston, United States - April 13, 2023:  Detail of the roof of the Houston Astrodome, known as the Eighth Wonder of the World when it was opened in 1965.  This shot taken from above at an altitude of about 600 feet from an orbiting helicopter.  The Astrodome was the world's first domed sports stadium and was home to the Houston Astros, the Houston Oilers and the Houston Rodeo.  This publicly owned building has sat completely abandoned and unused since 2008 and is slated for a major taxpayer funded renovation to potentially create a domed city park in upcoming years.

With its breathtaking domes that look like hanging in the air, monolithic marble columns and unparalleled mosaics, is one of the wonders of world’s architecture history.\n\nHagia Sophia (/ˈhɑːɡiə soʊˈfiːə/; from Koinē Greek: Ἁγία Σοφία, romanized: Hagía Sophía; Latin: Sancta Sophia, lit. 'Holy Wisdom'), officially the Hagia Sophia Holy Grand Mosque (Turkish: Ayasofya-i Kebir Cami-i Şerifi)[3] and formerly the Church of Hagia Sophia,[4] is a Late Antique place of worship in Istanbul, designed by the Greek geometers Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles.[5] Built in 537 as the patriarchal cathedral of the imperial capital of Constantinople, it was the largest Christian church of the eastern Roman Empire (the Byzantine Empire) and the Eastern Orthodox Church, except during the Latin Empire from 1204 to 1261, when it became the city's Roman Catholic cathedral. In 1453, after the Fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Empire, it was converted into a mosque. In 2020, it re-opened as a mosque.
