Adjustable exhaust nozzle with partly expanded diffusers - a variable area nozzle is required in a jet engine for optimal expansion and adjusting back pressure in the engine when the afterburner is operated, it avoids compressor surge problems due to the increased back pressure on the engine when the afterburner is lit - engines capable of supersonic flight have convergent-divergent exhaust duct features to generate supersonic flow - GE F110 afterburning turbofan jet engine on F-16 fighters - empennage close-up of exhaust and elevator.

A life raft canister is a durable container, typically made of fiberglass or plastic, designed to store and protect a life raft. These canisters are usually mounted on the deck of a boat, making the life raft easily accessible in an emergency. Canisters are built to withstand harsh marine environments, protecting the life raft from the elements. Mounted on deck, they allow for quick deployment in case of an emergency. Canisters are generally larger and heavier than soft valise containers, but they offer better protection. Regular servicing is essential to ensure the life raft remains in good condition and ready for use

Pair of supplementary fuel tanks on dolly trolleys near a taxiway and nearby fire extinguisher - 300 gallon centerline / belly tanks usable in aircraft such as the the F-16 fighting falcon. A German invention, drop tanks were introduced in the 1930s on fighter aircraft such as the Messerschmitt Bf 109. The mostly cylindrical, aerodynamically shaped tanks are generally attached to external load carriers under the fuselage, the wings or on wing tips. The aircraft's fuel supply is switched so that the fuel is first transferred from the drop tanks to the internal fuel tanks. Like any external load, external tanks affect the speed of an aircraft through their air resistance (drag) and the maneuverability of an aircraft through their weight and limited structural strength. Furthermore, they increase the radar cross section As the name implies these can be dropped in flight.
