While typically harmless, C. freundii can act as an opportunistic pathogen, leading to infections such as urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, and sepsis. Additionally, it is known for its ability to develop antibiotic resistance, complicating treatment in clinical settings. This bacterium can also form biofilms in hospital sewers.
