The sculpture stands on a square base which has bronze relief panels depicting the story of Perseus and Andromeda, similar to a predella on an altarpiece.[1] It is located in the Loggia dei Lanzi in the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy.

Medici Lions at Loggia dei Lanzi at Florence in Tuscany, Italy. These marble sculptures date to the 2nd century AD (a Roman one) and the other one is 16th century pendant. They were displayed at Villa Medici from 1576 and were subsequently (from 1789) placed on show at the open public space of Loggia dei Lanzi. Behind, in focus, is Perseus with the Head of Medusa by Benvenuto Cellini at Loggia dei Lanzi on Piazza della Signoria.
