Blooming Tormentil, Potentilla erecta - Blühender Blutwurz
Caltha palustris, commonly called Marsh marigold, is a rhizomatous perennial of the Buttercup family that is native to stream margins, marshes, swamps and wet meadows. The common name, marsh marigold, is only descriptively accurate as to this plant’s habitat, because it neither looks like, nor is related to, marigolds, which is Aster family. It typically grows 12-18” tall on hollow, branching stems. Bright yellow flowers with 5-9 deep yellow petal-like sepals bloom in winter and spring (February to June).

Untouched nature. When a small piece of cultivated land is left alone for a year during the summer, a remarkable transformation takes place. wildflowers begins to emerge, painting the landscape with vibrant hues. Native plants reclaim their territory and bring biodiversity back to the area. Buried seeds from seasons past awaken, shooting up.

Medium shot of this pretty small yellow flower. The plant is also known as bloodroot, erect cinquefoil, septfoil and shepherd's knot. Tormentil is quite distinct from other Potentillas in that it has only four petals. Its herbal uses have been for diarrhoea and ulcerative colitis. Extracts from root and herb have been a gargle for throat and mouth, and a lotion for haemorrhoids. Given advances in modern medicine, none of these uses is recommended.
