Malvastrum lateritium is a prostrate perennial with a creeping and bushy habit. From May to July, depending on the region, solitary, cup-shaped, 3 to 5 cm in diameter flowers bloom with their 5 peach to salmon pink petals, with yellow center (anthers) and deep pink bands.

The Arizona Wild Rose or Wood’s Rose (Rosa woodsii) is a shrub that is native to various regions across North America, including parts of Arizona.  This plant typically grows in open areas, meadows and along streams or canyons. It has pink to light rose-colored flowers with five petals and a pleasant fragrance. The leaves have serrated edges and the stems are covered in thorns.  This species of rose has adapted to survive in arid and mountainous environments, making it suitable for the diverse landscapes of Arizona. It provides habitat and food for wildlife, as well as contributing to the natural beauty of the region.  This wild rose was photographed in the Fort Valley area of the Coconino National Forest near Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.
