$Short to medium, stiffy erect, hairy perennial. Leaves digitate, with 5-7 oblong, coarsely-toothed to pinnately lobed leaflets, gray to grayish green. Flowers pale yellow, 15-25mm, in lax, branched clusters; petals equally or slighter longer than the sepals.\nHabitat: Dry grassy and waste places, meadows, banks, woodland margins, roadsides and field boundaries.\nFlowering Season: June-September.\nDistribution: C and E Europe, France and Germany southward. Tormentil is quite distinct from other Potentillas in that it has only four petals. Its herbal uses have been for diarrhoea and ulcerative colitis. Extracts from root and herb have been a gargle for throat and mouth, and a lotion for haemorrhoids.
