Red deer stag (Cervus elaphus) roaring, with females (hinds) during the rut. When a stag and a group of hinds form a cohesive group, the females are sometimes described as a harem. The rut is an annual event that, in Great Britain, happens during October. This is when deer become sexually active and males fight for possession of females.

Tot 40-45mm, Ab 26-35mm, Hw 20-27mm.\nThis mobile species is typical of habitats prone to desiccation. It is recognized in most areas by its pale coloration and bicolored pterostigma. Often seen ovipositing in completely dry areas.\nOccurrence:\nA strong wanderer found in Mid and South Europe to the east to Mongolia; may be absent from areas for many years, suddenly establishing large colonies that may persist for years. A southern species that has increased dramatically in northern Europe since the mid 1990s.\nHabitat:\nFavors ephemeral conditions even more than other Lestes species, being typical of sites that dry out early in summer, such as dune slacks, meadow pools and shallow depressions.\nFlight Season:\nFrom March to October in the southern Mediterranean, but in the north most adults probably emerge in June and July, reaching the greatest densities in August.\n\nThis Picture is made in a large Rift with a rich vegetation in Flevoland (the Netherlands) in half of June 2021.

Cortodera humeralis is a species of longhorn beetle in the Cerambycidae family.\nCharacteristics:\nThe beetles become 8 to 11 millimeters long and have a variable body coloration. A dark color variant occurs, the elytra of which are black or brown in color and each has two, rarely only one yellowish spot on the shoulder. The light colour variant has yellow-brown elytra, with a dark elytra seam. \nOccurrence and way of life:\nThey are found in large parts of Europe, but are absent in northern Europe and the British Isles. They inhabit deciduous forests and occur in May and June. Adults are often found sitting on bushes or flowering oaks. The larvae develop in deadwood in soil litter, in fungal fallen wood and also in dead, near-surface roots of deciduous trees (source Wikipedia).\n\nThis Picture is made during a long weekend in the South of Belgium in June 2006.
