Turk’s turban (Clerodendrum indicum) is a small shrub which is listed in the Global Compendium of Weeds as ‘environmental weed’. The species is considered native to temperate and tropical Asia including southern China, India, Malaysia and possibly the Philippines. It has been intentionally introduced across temperate and tropical regions as an ornamental, is known to have escaped from cultivation, and is now established in the Neotropics.

Also known as bittersweet, scarlet berry and violet bloom - woody nightshade has the Latin name (Solanum dulcamara). The berries are poisonous - one reason why they were recently removed from the British Pharmacopoeia. In the past, the prepared twigs have been used in a preparation against skin diseases. The shape of the flowers may look familiar, since woody nightshade is related to the potato and tomato plants.
