A stunning sunset light envelops the silhouette of the statue of the emperor Trajan along the Fori Imperiali boulevard, in the ancient heart of Rome. This bronze statue, placed in front of the Trajan's Forum, is a copy of the original marble preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, made in the first century AD. and found in the city of Minturno during some archaeological excavations. In the background the silhouette of the National Monument of the Altare della Patria, in Piazza Venezia square. The Altare della Patria is the scene of all the official Italian civic celebrations, in particular the Republic Day on June 2 and the Liberation Day on April 25. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Image in high definition format.

The Capitoline Hill (Latin: Collis Capitolinus pronounced, between the Forum and the Campus Martius, is one of the seven hills of Rome. By the 16th century, Capitolinus had become Campidoglio in the Roman dialect. The English word capitol derives from Capitoline. The Capitoline contains few ancient ground-level ruins, as they are almost entirely covered up by Medieval and Renaissance palaces (now housing the Capitoline Museums) that surround a piazza, a significant urban plan designed by Michelangelo.
