The remains of the Alexander Nymphaeum in the central park of Piazza Vittorio, in the historic heart of Rome. This monumental fountain, built during the Severi dynasty between 193 and 235 AD and fed by the Claudius aqueduct, marked the highest point of the Esquiline hill and the confluence of the consular roads Tiburtina and Collatina. Dedicated to the first King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, Piazza Vittorio is the center of the Esquilino district, and the largest square in Rome. At the beginning of the twentieth century the Esquilino district, famous for its large and elegant buildings, was considered one of the most exclusive districts of the city. Currently it is a more popular and multi-ethnic quarter, with the presence of many families and workers of Asian and North African origin, much loved by the younger generations for the presence of restaurants, trendy pubs and discos. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Image in high definition format.

The Capitoline Hill (Latin: Collis Capitolinus pronounced, between the Forum and the Campus Martius, is one of the seven hills of Rome. The Capitoline contains few ancient ground-level ruins, as they are almost entirely covered up by Medieval and Renaissance palaces (now housing the Capitoline Museums) that surround a piazza, a significant urban plan designed by Michelangelo.
