Kitchen sage, salvia officinalis
Salvia austriaca, commonly known as Austrian Sage, is a species of flowering plant in the Salvia genus within the Lamiaceae family. The flowers of Salvia austriaca are borne in dense, terminal spikes that rise above the foliage. Each spike is composed of numerous tubular flowers arranged in whorls along the stem. Flowering occurs in late spring to early summer. It is native to central and southeastern Europe, where it is found in dry meadows, rocky slopes, and open woodlands. It prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soils and thrives in full sun to partial shade

Salvia nutans, nodding sage, is a species of Salvia in the family Lamiaceae, native to Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and possibly Siberia. The flowers of Salvia nutans are borne on slender, arching spikes that emerge from the upper leaf axils. Each spike is densely packed with tubular, two-lipped flowers that are typically violet-blue in color. The flowers have a hooded upper lip and a three-lobed lower lip, which give them a unique appearance. Flowering usually occurs in late spring to early summer, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Very variable medium to tall, tufted, hairy perennial, slightly aromatic, with erect, branched stems, rather glandular above. Leaves oval to oblong with a heart-shaped base, somewhat wrinkled, deep green, the lowermost long-stalked, the upper smaller and unstalked. Flowers violet-blue, occasionally pink or white, large, 20-30mm long, in whorls of 4-6, the upper lip markedly curved; bracts green, half the length of the calyx.\nHabitat: Meadows and grassy places on calcareous soils, occasionally in waste places, to 1900m.\nFlowering Season: June-July.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe to W Asia.\n\nThis Picture is made during a long weekend in the Eifel (Germany) in June 2019.
