The inscription highlights Cosimo I's role as the first Grand Duke of Tuscany and as a key figure in the unification and development of the region. The date 1872 refers to the year when the statue was installed in its current location in the Piazza della Signoria.

Saint Antonino (1389-1459) of Florence (also known as Antoninus or Little Anthony), was an Italian Dominican friar, who ruled as Archbishop of Florence and is now venerated as a Catholic saint.
