A series of 2 striking images of the beaches at Luskentyre on Eilean Siar in the Western Isles or Outer Hebrides (The Isle of Harris, specifically), off North West Scotland in the UK. Taken in midmorning, early May 2021 during an unusually prolonged winter. Both images show dramatic storm clouds building over the North Harris hills but these are casing shadows and unusual light where the hills meet the sea. The sand and sea at this world famous viewpoint are constantly shifting such that a new sandbank has developed and allowed the Jade Green seas to create new routes over the dazzling white sand. The two pictures are broadly similar but the second one is arguably more dramatic, given the shooting in HDR. In the first picture illustrates the deep cobalt blue sea, fading towards the hills as deep emerald but then fades further still to paler Jade in the shallowest areas. The second picture was taken in HDR and really emphasises the already vivid colours of the water, the rocks and the sand.

$A lovely short walk at the extreme northern end of Coll heads through a largely deserted former crofting and fishing village, Solisdale. Walking through former blackhouses and cottages, today only lived in by cattle and sheep, there is a lovely beach at the end with views of the Isle of Mull.\n\nColl is an island located west of the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. The Isle of Coll is known for its sandy beaches, which rise to form large sand dunes, for its corncrakes, and for Breacachadh Castle. It is in the council area of Argyll and Bute in Scotland.$

A strikingly colourful series of 12 images showing the extraordinarily spectacular beaches and coastline of West Harris in the Western Isles (or Outer Hebrides) off the coast of NW Scotland. All of these images have one over-riding factor in common - the bright Jade Green Colour of the sea contrasting with the white or sometimes yellowish sand and the dark browns and mauves of the hills. They were all taken in May 2019 and the sea has become a particularly vivid shade of jade green this year - always turquoise or aquamarine, the intensity of the jade green colour is much greater now than ever, as a result of a drop in salinity (due to local outflowing of fresh water and melting ice caused by global warming) and the levels of phytoplankton (attracted by the reduction in salinity) in the water, which give out large quantities of blue-green light. The images are taken along a 6 mile stretch of the coast between Horgabost and Scarasta; the colours are real (they have not been enhanced or re-touched) and no filters (except UV) were used. This 11th image in the series is of Luskentyre looking North towards the North Harris Hills (actually mountains) and the Isle of Lewis beyond, some 30 miles distant.
