Porcelain Basin spans about one square mile and is renowned for its otherworldly, stark white landscape created by siliceous sinter deposits. It is one of the most active geothermal areas in the park, featuring numerous geysers, hot springs, and fumaroles, with temperatures often exceeding 200°F (93°C). Its colours are caused by thermophilic (heat-loving) microorganisms including various types of bacteria and algae. Cyanobacteria, for instance, contribute blues and greens, while different species of archaea and bacteria create reds, yellows, and oranges. The colors are also influenced by the mineral content of the water, such as iron, sulfur, and silica, which can form colorful mineral deposits and runoff channels.
Sierra Negra Volcano. Sulfur mines. Galapagos Islands
The green crater lake of the Ijen volcano in East Java, Indonesia. At the shore of the acid lake there is an active vent which is a source of elemental sulfur. At this place local people do sulfur mining - the miners break out the sulfur in large pieces and carry it in baskets up to the crater rim and afterwards down to the village at the slopes of the vulcano. These workers are carrying baskets with loads between 70 and 100 kilograms, most of them are doing this twice a day.

The volcanic explosion crater of Dallol in the Danakil Depresseion in Nothern Ethiopia. The Dallol crater was formed during a phreatic eruption in 1926. This crater is known as the lowest subaerial vulcanic vents in the world. The surreal colours are caused by green acid ponds and iron oxides and sulfur.

Avoca Spring is a notable geothermal feature located in Biscuit Basin. It measures about 15 feet (4.5 meters) in diameter and reaches a depth of approximately 10 feet (3 meters). It's known for its vivid blue water and the surrounding mineral deposits that showcase a range of colors due to microbial life and mineral accumulation.
