The journey is long and difficult. Many fish will fail. The path up the fish ladders is near the end of the salmon run. These fish are driven and determined to be successful. The event happens every year in Valdez, Alaska.

The spawning salmon make their way up the fish ladders in Valdez, Alaska. These fish have come a long way and it shows.  No matter their condition, they continue to push on, driven by an inward elite to reach their destination.
The salmon run is the time when salmon, which have migrated from the ocean, swim to the upper reaches of rivers where they spawn on gravel beds. After spawning, all Pacific salmon and most Atlantic salmon die, and the salmon life cycle starts over again.
