Located in the Bakırçay Basin, north of Izmir, Bergama is one of the most important settlements in the history of civilization and was founded on the ancient city of Pergamon. Although the history of the region dates back to the Bronze Age, the earliest finds on the top of the castle where the ancient city of Pergamon was founded date back to the 7th to 6th centuries BC.\n\nThe city came to the forefront during the Hellenistic Period and served as the capital of the Kingdom of Pergamon, which was established during this period. There are many civil architecture examples such as mosques, inns, baths, fountains, synagogues, synagogues, covered bazaars, etc. bearing the traces of Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. The city, which smells of history, is an open-air museum like many districts of Izmir and is one of the richest districts of Izmir in terms of culture.
