Arabian Dagger with Silver hilt, in a silver sheath on rich red background. It is called a Khanjar in Oman and the UAE; a Jambiya in the Yemen. This one is a Jambiya. There are many uses for the dagger. It is a symbolic weapon, and worn by men after puberty. These days it is used as part of formal dress, quite often on ceremonial occassions, to go with the Arabian robe. Many Sheikhs of the Arabian Gulf wore such daggers on ceremonial occasions, in the past. The unsheathing of the dagger was considered a social taboo. Men would only do that in a situation of conflict, if they sought revenge or assassination. Photo shot in natural light; horizontal format. Copy space.
