The large copper (Lycaena dispar) is a butterfly of the family Lycaenidae. \n\nHabitat:\nL. dispar is a wetland species in decline throughout Europe. The primary habitat of this butterfly has been drained for agricultural and other land usage, limiting their habitat. When it can, L. dispar will utilize plants growing away from watersides and among reed-fen vegetation. In this way L. dispar can avoid possible flooding that can occur in lower lying areas closer to the waters edge. The species prefers, undisturbed, grasslands along the riverbanks and stream banks, where its larval food plant, the greater water dock, (R. hydrolapathum) can be found. \nWarmer microclimates, as well as warmer regions in general are preferred by L. dispar, allowing for faster growth time of larvae.\n Land disturbances through agriculture, primarily the mowing of grass, and other foliage has a negative influence on populations of L. dispar, such that mowing shortly after egg-laying, will result in disastrous losses, due to the eggs being destroyed and the newly hatched larvae being deprived of host plants, for food: L. dispar lays its eggs on, host food plants, commonly low-lying, with larval migration limited to the area around their birth, host plant. For conservation purposes, it is highly recommended that L. dispar habitats be closely managed, with promotion in increased habitat heterogeneity, being most important: this strategy has proven beneficial for many other species of butterfly (source Wikipedia).\n\n\nThis Picture is made during a Vacation in Bulgaria in May 2018.

Issoria lathonia is a scarce resident in the Netherlands. it has both temporary and permanent populations; permanent populations are practically limited to the Coastal Dunes, where it is still common.\nHabitat: It occurs on warm open, dry, grasslands; open patches. Temporary populations are nowadays only found inland, on cornfields that have been left fallow.\nFlight Season: It flies in three generations from mid-April until the beginning of October and hibernates successfully only as a young caterpillar.\nAt present, the species is categorised as vulnerable on the Red List.\n\nThis Picture is made in the Eastern Part of the Netherlands (Overijssel) in August 2023.
Meadow Brown butterfly (Maniola jurtina) on a pane of glass
This small butterfly is characteristic of southern chalk and limestone grassland but occurs in a variety of other open habitats as far north as north Wales and Yorkshire. It is a close relative of the Northern Brown Argus, which is restricted to Scotland and northern England.\nThe adults have a silvery appearance as they fly low to the ground and they stop frequently either to perch or feed on flowers. They may be confused with Common Blue females, which also have brown upperwings but usually with some blue at the base. It is also very similar to Northern Brown Argus which usually has no orange spots on forewing.
