Flowering wild Buddleia butterfly bush, first brought to the west by Pere David in the 1860s. Buddleia is much planted because its scent and nectar attracts many insects, including butterflies. However, this bush needs little encouragement to grow, since its wind-blown seeds find their way onto buildings and along railway lines. Pale lilac-coloured flower panicles seen here in a wasteland area in Surrey, England.
