It comes after the last two New Year’s Eve displays were cancelled due to the pandemic. People across the country (The United Kingdom) celebrated the new year, 2023, many thousands of people turned out for the new year occasion due to the wet and windy weather in London, United Kingdom on the 31st of December 2022. London's New Year fireworks display includes a tribute to the Queen and a show of support for Ukraine. A tribute to the late Queen and a show of support for Ukraine featured in London's New Year fireworks display, as more than 100,000 people gathered on the banks of the Thames to mark the beginning of 2023. New year in London, the UK: Tributes to late Queen as fireworks welcome in 2023. The UK has celebrated the new year with firework displays and street parties for the first time fully since the beginning of the COVID pandemic. A 12-minute firework display lit up the sky over Big Ben and the London Eye in central London. Despite wet weather, party-goers were undeterred and took to the streets to usher in 2023. London's firework display, which featured a tribute to the late Queen, attracted more than 100,000 people. It was the first time since 2019 that people gathered along the Thames Embankment to watch the 12-minute firework display in London, which the city's mayor Sadiq Khan described as the biggest in Europe.
