Grotto Geyser is known for its unique, irregularly shaped cone, which resembles a series of interlocked arches or grottoes. Eruptions from Grotto Geyser are frequent, often lasting several hours, with water reaching heights of 10 to 40 feet. The geyser's unusual cone formation is believed to have been created by mineral deposits building up around the remnants of dead trees and other debris, making it one of the most distinctive features in the basin. Grotto Geyser is part of the Giant Group, contributing to the diverse geothermal landscape of Yellowstone.
