Unique geothermal features where hot springs deposit iron-rich minerals, creating reddish-brown formations resembling molten chocolate. These iron-oxide deposits are formed as the hot, mineral-laden water flows out and cools, precipitating the iron and other minerals. They were first documented by members of the Hayden Geological Survey of 1871, led by geologist Ferdinand V. Hayden.
