Plankton plays a vital role in marine ecosystems. Blackwater diving is an exhilarating underwater activity that takes place in the open ocean at night, offering a unique opportunity to photograph zooplankton and other pelagic creatures. The goal is to capture delicate creatures as they ascend from the deep in a nightly migration. Translucent, black and red parts of the body are invisible at night. \nThis is the larva of a Flowery Flounder Bothus mancus. The larva lives in the pelagic zone. Bothus mancus occurs throughout the Indo-Pacific region, adults inhabit sandy bottoms of coastal coral reefs, generally in shallow. The species hunts mostly at night, but also active during the day, feeding on fishes, crabs and shrimps. Max. length 51cm. \nIn adults, both eyes of this species are on the left side. This specimen's right eye did not migrate to the other side. \nThis larva of Peacock Flounder Bothus mancus was encountered in the Lembeh Strait, Indonesia\n1°28'51.636 N 125°14'37.95 E at 13m depth

Rhino Filefish or Rhinoceros Leatherjacket Pseudalutarius nasicornis occurs in tropical and subtropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific from South Africa eastward through Indonesia, northward to southern Japan, southward to the east coast of Australia and in the Southeast Atlantic at the south coast of South Africa in a depth range from 1 to 55m, max. length 19cm. \nThe species inhabits coastal reefs and enter estuaries, often silty habitat and usually slopes with low rubble reef and rich invertebrate growth. The species is often found in pairs. Juveniles hide or shelter near seawhips or seapens. \nThis male specimen was encountered in the Lembeh Strait, Indonesia\n1°27'13.104 N 125°14'14.634 E at 13m depth
