Talavera pottery is an artisan tradition that originated in Talavera de la Reina, a city in the province of Toledo, in Spain. It is a clay pottery decorated with metallic glazes, which is used to make tableware, tiles, and decorative objects. Talavera pottery has a long history dating back to the 16th century, when it was influenced by Islamic art. It has been recognized for its quality and beauty by writers such as Cervantes and Lope de Vega, and by painters such as Velázquez and Murillo. In 2019, Talavera pottery was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, along with the Talavera-style pottery produced in Mexico, where it was brought by Spanish colonizers.
