$These photographs have been carefully made to reflect how I would view the world without these unnatural devices. Specifically around the aesthetic I see whilst I squint and attempt to focus on elements.\n\nTechnically, these have been challenging to produce. Simply defocusing a lens will not give the correct aesthetic. I have experimented with several methods and this is the most ‘lifelike’ look I have created.\n\nI have been shooting at 40mm, f/2.2. This is the closest lens value to our natural perception of the world. I then defocus the lens and take two photographs, one slightly more in focus and taken roughly two inches to the left of the cameras initial position. This is because my right eye is worse than my left. I then combine the photographs with a 50/50 opacity, align them and export the final photograph.\n\nI now plan to take this work further by hunting for compositions without sight aids. I’m intrigued to see if this has an effect on the way that I observe light as a photographer.$
