The Nymphenburg Palace (German: Schloss Nymphenburg) or Castle of the Nymphs is a Baroque palace in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. The palace is the main summer residence of the former rulers of Bavaria of the House of Wittelsbach.

Munich, Germany  July 26, 2015: Pavilion for the Goddess Diana in Hofgarten. The Hofgarten (Court Garden) is a garden in the center of Munich. The garden was built in 1613 - 1617 by Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria as an Italian style Renaissance garden. In the center of the garden is a pavilion for the goddess Diana, built in 1615 by Heinrich Schön the elder. There are eight arches on the pavilion and from each arch radiates a footpath that serves to divide the garden into eight individual sections. On the roof of the Diana pavilion is the replica of a sculpture of Bavaria by Hubert Gerhard, created in 1623.

Nymphenburg Palace owes its foundation as a summer residence to the birth of the long-awaited heir to the throne, Max Emanuel, who was born in 1662 to the Bavarian Elector Ferdinand Maria and his wife, Henriette Adelaide of Savoy.
