Stacked volcanic rock forms the exterior wall of an ancient Sinagua Indian cliff dwelling on a high desert canyon promentory. This wall contains a portal through which arrows could be fired at an enemy while permitting concealment from attack. Visibility from this vantage ponit is also very good for hundreds of yards across the desert terrain. The Sinagua Indian tribe that selected this site did so for its defensible position. On the opposite side of the site a sheer cliff drops to a long steep hill that descends to a dry riverbed - allowing no access from that side. Site selection was critical for the Sinagua, and perfectly executed here. This culture combined hunting and gathering with agriculture, but the latter was challenging in this arrid, high desert wilderness terrain. The exact site location, which requires considerable effort to reach, is intentionally omitted. Its estimated age dates to 1300 AD - 1400 AD.
