The conspicuous yellow spot on S7 identifies males and most females through binoculars.\nOccurrence:\nGenerally uncommon; populations are usually local and small. The most thermophilus Leucorrhinia, with a relative southern range.\nHabitat:\nGenerally inhabits less acidic and nutrient poor places than L. dubia and L. rubicunda, preferring marshy borders to bogs, forest lakes, fenlands, marshy ditches.\nVegetation is typically lush and varied, with both emergent and submerged species. Both sexes of the Four-spotted chaser are golden-brown, getting darker towards the tip of the body, and with yellow spots along the sides. Two dark spots at the front edge of each wing give this dragonfly its name and an easily recognisable appearance.
