In summer, Teucrium chamaedrys grows in the wild among grasses
Short to medium hairy perennial, sometimes almost a subshrub; stems erect, branched. Leaves oval to heart shaped, stalked; bracts oval, short. Flowers pale greenish-yellow, occasionally whitish, 8-9mm long, hairy, stamens protruding with maroon anthers, in leafless spikes.\nHabitat: Open woods, dunes, generally on dry, non-calcareous soils, at low attitudes.\nFlowering Season: July-September.\nDistribution: Western Europe N to S Norway.\n\nThis Picture is made during a Vacation to Ireland in July 2022, photographed in the Midlands of England.

Very variable, short, slightly hairy, tufted perennial with a woody base. Leaves oblong, untoothed, to sharply toothed, shiny dark green above and rather leathery. Bracts similar to the leaves, but smaller. \nFlowers pale to deep purplish-pink, rarely white, 9-16mm long, in leafy spikes.\nHabitat: Dry bare ground, open woods, to 1800m.\nFlowering Season: May-September.\nDistribution: Native to Mediterranean region of Europe and North Africa, and to the Middle East as far east as Iran.\nThe Species was historically used as a medicinal herb for the treatment of gout and sometimes as a component of Venice treacle (source Wikipedia).\n\nThis Picture is made during a short Trip in the Eifel (Germany) in August 2021.
