Wood horsetail

Horsetail is part of the ancient genus Equisetum, which was the dominant plant group during the Carboniferous age more than 230 million years ago. It is one of the toughest weeds to manage.

$Sterile stems short to tall, to 80cm, sometimes sprawly green, usually with numerous whorls of relatively thick unbranched branches; ridges 6-19 on stems, 3-4 on branches. Fertile stems whitish or pinkish, unbranched, soon withering.\nCones: ripe April-May, before the sterile stems.\nHabitat: Generally the commonest horsetail, patch-forming and much the most frequent in drier grassy and waste places; sometimes a tiresome weed.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe.\n\nThis is a very common Species in the Netherlands.$
