Portrait of Aymara woman, Isla del Sol (Island Of The Sun), Lake Titicaca, Bolivia. Isla del Sol is an island in the southern part of Lake Titicaca. It is part of the modern Plurinational State of Bolivia. Geographically, the terrain is harsh; it is a rocky, hilly island. There are no motor vehicles or paved roads on the island. The main economic activity of the approximately 800 families on the island is farming, with fishing and tourism augmenting the subsistence economy. Of the several villages, Yumani and Cha'llapampa are the largest. There are over 80 ruins on the island. Most of these date to the Inca period circa the 15h century AD. Archaeologists have discovered evidence that people lived on the island as far back as the third millennium BCE. Many hills on the island contain agricultural terraces, which adapt steep and rocky terrain to agriculture. Among the ruins on the island are the Sacred Rock, a labyrinth-like building called Chicana, Kasa Pata, and Pilco Kaima. In the religion of the Incas, it was believed that the sun god was born here.

Built in Neo-classical style on the Quirinal hill between 1573 and 1583 as the residence of Pope Gregory XIII, over the centuries this palace has been the papal residence (1605-1870), the residence of the King of Italy (1871-1946) and the official seat of the Presidency of the Republic (from 1946 to today). Some of the most important Italian architects and artists participated in its construction and decoration, including Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Carlo Maderno, Guido Reni and Domenico Fontana. The Quirinal Palace, with an extension of 110 thousand square meters, is the sixth largest building in the world. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Piazza Venezia is the central hub of Rome, Italy, in which several thoroughfares intersect, including the Via dei Fori Imperiali and the Via del Corso. It takes its name from the Palazzo Venezia, built by the Venetian Cardinal, Pietro Barbo (later Pope Paul II) alongside the church of Saint Mark, the patron saint of Venice. The Palazzo Venezia served as the embassy of the Republic of Venice in Rome.\n\nOne side of the Piazza is the site of Italy's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Altare della Patria, part of the Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II, first king of Italy.\n\nThe piazza or square is at the foot of the Capitoline Hill and next to Trajan's Forum. The main artery, the Via di Fori Imperiali begins there and leads past the Roman Forum to the Colosseum.\n\nCapitalizing on this modern and ancient symbolism--and the useful open space--Piazza Venezia was the location of public speeches given by the Italian dictator Mussolini to crowds of his supporters in the 1920s-1940s.
