Camellia japonica, commonly called Japanese camellia, is an evergreen shrub that typically grows to 2-4m tall with glossy, dark green leaves. It is native to Japan and China. Species plants have single flowers, but there are also cultivars with semi-double or double flowers. Each single flower has 5-8 petals. Flower colors are most commonly white, pink or red with yellow anthers.

Erica canaliculata, also called channeled heath, hairy gray heather, bull’s eye design Erica, Janome Erika (in Japan), black stamen Erica, and black-eyed heath, is an erect growing evergreen shrub, which is native to South Africa.
